22, Feb 2011 Music reflection

Theory

                Today, we did not have many students at the start of the class due to students being hold up in the other class. So we started the class a little bit late than usually. Today we learn about tonic triads, 1^st inversion, and 2nd inversion. Our teacher told us to draw down the C major scale and learn the tonic triads, 1^st inversion and 2^nd inversion. I learn the tonic triads 1,3, and 5, 1^st inversion is note 3,5 and 1, and the 2^nd inversion is note 5,1 and 3. The inversion for me is pretty complicated especially hearing and writing down the notes. It is so easy for me to get confuse with the inversions. We also did the G major scale which has one flat note. I think that it is important for me to learn this because it will help me be able to make a better music or to compose a new music. Our teacher also gave us homework over the night with the inversions on the major scale D, A, E, and F. Our teacher also recommended us to go to teoria.com to help us with the tonic triads and etc.

Music Practical

                Since today we were finally able to get out of the music Theory class early, we were able to have time about 30 min to cover. For the violin class, 30 min is not long at all. So, when we got into the class, we directly took out our instrument and tune it up. Than The cello had to go first to practice. I really like the sound of the cello; I can fill the bass and the power in the cello. I wish I had a chance to learn the cello, but I’m probably to lazy to bring it everywhere. Than The violin was told to stand and start playing our notes. We were told to pick one song that we will be going to play for the next music assessment music practical. I chose the song Minuet 3 in G major; because I think that the song is a nice peace. Then as we play a little bit more, it was time. I think that I have a good confident for the assessment coming up. I’m going to be practicing a lot for this peace.

16, Feb 2011 music reflection

Theory

               Today, we had our group presentation. For this assessment, we had to make and organize it outside the music class, because we had no time to do it and also due to no class on Tuesday, February 15, 2011. So I was pretty unsure about the whole situation and the slide show. Thank goodness that my team was to be the last team to present our slide show, so at least, I will have time to review and al so to watch the other team do there slide show. There were a lot of teams that I have to say did very good. The first team who got up was by Benny’s group. The group slide show I think is good; there are so many facts about the subject. Than it was followed by Ester’s group, I think that it was very even if the slide show was simple but it has a lot of good resources. Then Melicia’s group went up, I like how they organize their slide show and putting songs background according the artist that they are talking about. Then Bella’s group went, I think that Bella’s group is one of the best. It was very good resources, facts and very well organize with the back ground music. Then it was my group’s tern. I was pretty confident during that time, because I had already reviewed my work before the show began. I think that our team did a good job, we were also able to finish the whole thing in less than 10 min. So I was also happy because it was finally paid off.

9, Feb 2011 Music Reflection

Theory

                Today, when we got into the class, we were directly told to be seated. Than our theory teacher showed when on to the stage and told everybody who have not sing to put their music in the computer, and also for people who are going to sing to get ready. Then while this whole calamity happen, our violin teacher, Mr. Sadrakh, showed up and will be one of the invigilator. I guess that I’m pretty lucky that I’m not been evaluated by 2 teachers (in my perspective). Than after 15-20 min. of calamity, our music singing assessment starts again. When one by one sing, I realize that there are friends who have very good talents to sing and also to play an instrument while singing. It is pretty amazing. Then while the assessment is almost finish, our guitar and woodwind teacher join and help evaluate for the last few friends. After the whole thing was done, it was time so we did not have any music practical. Than our teacher reminded us about the slide show due next week.

8, Feb 2011 Music reflection

Theory

                Today is one of the biggest days of music theory class, because we have to sing a pop song in front of class. During the first 10-20 min of the class, our teacher gave us with the introduction of the rules of the assessment and our attendance. Than the pressure start. Our teacher than make the decision in which person to start from the 1^st or the last. If it was the 1^st, I will singing the 2^nd but if I’m last I still have tomorrow. I really do not care on when I will be assess, I just want it to be done as fast as possible. But then because of the votes and everything, I was the person who will be playing the 2^nd. The pressure was increasing very high, I was very nervous and basically starts to forget everything. Then I try to tune the guitar and set it up. When to teacher called my name that was it the pressure was high that I lost the lyrics, cords, rhythms and beat. So I bought the song paper so that I can see when I forgot something. When I got in the front looking at the people, I just think that they are all not there. But when I played the song, it was like jumping to another world not knowing that I’m playing music with my guitar in front of people. I just keep on imagine that I’m at home playing it and looking at the window. But when the bridge came, I had went and realize that I’m in front of the people so I forgotten some of the words. But then I was thankful that I was able to go throw the assessment. Than after that I very calm and felt a sense relief. Then I was able to hear other classmate singing till the time was finish and well be continuing tomorrow.

2, Feb 2011 Music Reflection

Theory

                Today, we did in music theory class; we did not really do a lot for things. In class, because everything was settled for the week assessment and etc. we are able to continue our vocal rehearsal for next week’s singing performance on pop songs. I think that this rehearsal is good, so that we will know what it will feel in front of the class singing and also to get use to the stage looking at people, playing the instrument, singing the song, and teachers invigilating. This rehearsal helps a lot for people who are not use to be in stage singing. After hearing on people singing there song one by one, the number gets closer to my number, so time after time I intended to be very nervous. I was able to get the last person to sing in my class. When I got on the stage I got a little nervous but, thankfully, I was able to get out of my nervous and just play the music. Not knowing about the keys, vocal tunes and etc. Now that I know what I will be expecting from the audience, I will be practicing the song at home over and over and just get use to too the music.

Music Practical

                Today, since we had a petty short time for theory class, we are able to have more time in our music practical. In today’s class, we were able to learn and cover a lot of things. My teacher thought 2 of my friends to hold the violin properly and how the bow has to be swept on the strings. It was actually good for me to learn again how to hold the violin properly and how to sweep the strings properly. I also had a change how to be able to play a music peace. When were to pick a song that we have to play over the week and to be played in the violin. I found the class today very interesting, guess it’s because I myself like play music and like to hear music that people play. I hope that next time I will be able to have to time like this so that will be able to play and be able to learn fast and be able to better each time we practice.

1, Jan 2011 Music Reflection

Theory

               Today in theory class, we talk cover a lot of stuff. First we talked about our task that we will be doing in this 2 weeks, because there is a wrong communication between the teacher and the MYP Learning Plan given from the teacher. There was a mix problem in the dates, the dates for singing a pop song is suppose to be next week and the essay report is suppose to be due this week but the MYP is saying the opposite dates. So we are not at all preparing for the essay. So to be fare, the teacher told us to vote to do the singing or Essay report. Among all this, most of the class voted essay report first. So the teacher told us date the paper is due. The teacher than gave us photo copy of the essay task that we are suppose to do and name of people who played classic music in the old time and a information about classical music. The teacher than explains to us what we have to write in the essay, he also told us how many word, font size essay structure that he expects from us. The essay was said due this Friday by email.  After that, he told everybody one from the last in our attendance list to sing for the singing task next week, it’s pretty much a rehearsal for the task next week. But because of the time was running out we have to stop the rehearsal and the last one to sing was Melicia. The teacher than told us to go to teoria.com to learn more about all music theory especially the major, minor and inversion that we will be talking about. I think that the class really looking forward for the next music class.

Music Practical

                Today, since we were only given 12 minute to play our instruments, we were not able to play because it will take us time about 8 min to prepare our instruments and we will be will be able to play for 4 min. So we did not really do anything in class, the teacher only explains to us how to hold the violin properly and how to play the violin because there are 3 new people who are new to really do not know how to play the violin. It was also good for me to recap the holing of the violin the the basic of the violin. He told us just to keep practice how to play the violin on a string. We did not have any more time to learn about the violin. I think that next time, our theory teacher should understand the time for music practical and I do not think that it is good to bring our instrument for nothing such as today. So that we will be able to play more of the violin and be able to learn the violin even more, but if it’s going to be like this all the time, I think that we will not be moving forward.
